RSNC v. Right Thought
Right Thought is true thought. Right Thought sees beyond the physical world and our present circumstances. It is based on the knowledge and wisdom of truth: that the outer world is nothing but a reflection of the thoughts that we harbor within. We possess the supreme privilege of being able to determine the results that we desire to experience by regulating the form and quality of our thoughts. This is a metaphysical world and in order to change the world without, we must first change the world within. To achieve Success, one must engage in Purposeful Thought, Right Thought.
Achieving success in any endeavor – personal, financial, spiritual, and marital – necessarily requires right thought. Conscientious right thinking in the conscious (objective) mind translates into right feeling or “vibration” in the subconscious (subjective) mind, which results in right action. And, ending the equation, right actions will always manifest in right results.
Right thought is true thought. Right thought sees beyond the physical world and our present circumstances. It is based on the knowledge and wisdom of truth: that the outer world is nothing but a reflection of the thoughts that we harbor within. This is a metaphysical world and in order to change the world without, we must first change the world within.
Right thought is the seed; our subconscious mind is the garden. However, if right thought is not maintained, the seed will die. It must be nourished by continued right thought. Purposeful right thought.
Unfortunately, if we do not persevere in our thinking with purposeful right thought, our conscious mind is quick to settle into “default” mode – also known as RSNC or Random Self-Narrative Commentary. Now, give that some thought. RSNC, also known as “monkey thinking” because the thought process is not focused and merely swings about, grabbing the next attractive vine that it comes across, will never result in any meaningful success. It is impossible.
Let’s take a closer look at RSNC. Simply, RSNC is that “little voice” inside the head that is always running, but engages in no purposeful or meaningful thought process. Instead, it is random commentary on the people, events and circumstances in the outer world (including ourselves), as processed by our sensory perceptions, which is seemingly stuck on seeking out only the bad – what is wrong – with everything. It criticizes the actions or physical characteristics of others; it wails about poor state of the world, the global economic meltdown, the lack of opportunity, the politicians of whom we do not agree; it even criticizes ourselves, although it also believes that we are always better than those around us.
RSNC doesn’t praise. It rarely seeks the good. Instead, it is focused on the bad, the negative. It complains about everything.
Most people fail to see how such thinking results in their present life circumstances, but assuredly, it has everything to do with our present life circumstances. Therefore, changing the way we think – from default, subjective mode RSNC to enlightened (and heightened) purposeful right thought – means everything. If we seek to improve our lives and achieve more – to be, do and have more – then we must, as a matter of law and scientific principle – start with the manner in which we think about us and our world. To focus upon and work on the results (effects), and not on the originating, impregnating thought (causes) is simply working on the wrong end of the equation. We live in a “cause and effect” world. In order to change the effects, we must necessarily change the cause. Focusing on the effects – what we perceive via our sensory perceptions of the outer world, i.e., our present circumstances – will not change the effects. The effects have already happened; their occurrence is past history. As such, in order to change the effects of tomorrow, i.e., future circumstances, we must change the causes of today. Focusing on the effects will not only fail to change future effects, but it is a waste of time, effort and resources.
The difficulty that we all face is keeping our minds clean with right thought. Perhaps this explains why so many individuals work so hard, but never seem to get anywhere. They fail to change their thinking (clinging to RSNC because it is easy; purposeful right thought is difficult) and try forcing different results. The end result is no change in results.
If you want to bake like the world’s greatest baker, then you must think like the world’s greatest baker. If you want to design the world’s greatest buildings, then you must think like the world’s greatest architect. If you want to achieve financial success, then you must think like a financial guru, a mega, multimillionaire. Switching from RSNC to purposeful right thought is the seed, nourishment, nurturing and catalyst all wrapped in one. Purposeful right thought is the fundamental starting point and with continued practice will ensure success. But, that will take effort – committed, dedicated effort.
JFK stated long ago (09.12.1962), “We choose to . . . do things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard.” Think about that statement for a moment – there is more meat there than meets the initial eye. Why would we choose to “do things because they are hard?” Because choosing to do things because they are easy results in the failure to grow and failure to achieve success.
Don’t let the nature of this beast – the beast of committed, dedicated purposeful right thought – scare you. If anything, let the beast of RSNC scare you. You may not know this (or perhaps do, but choose not to believe it or choose not to take appropriate remedial action), but if you fail to conquer and control it, RSNC will control you – as it does now and as it has in the past. Making purposeful right thought your friend, confidante, and ally will allow you to take control. As stated by Raymond Holliwell in his timeless classic book, Working with the Law, we must learn to control your thoughts, lest we be controlled by them:
“Proceed to use your thinking faculty and take care that it does not use you . . . Learn to use your powers unless you wish to be used by them.”
Holliwell continues in Working with the Law by stating the bedrock principle that:
“While we cannot stop thinking, we possess the supreme privilege of being able to determine the sort of results it is desired to experience by regulating the form and quality of our thoughts. . . . The great, self-evident fact, which cannot be too often repeated, is that when we change our thinking for the better, we automatically change our lives for the better.”
Holliwell’s words ring true. Thinking purposeful right thought about our world and those around us, including ourselves, and abandoning the default mode of RSNC will automatically change our lives for the better.
We need to control our thoughts, our thinking, and create a beautiful image of what we desire, including the good and beauty of those around us, especially those whom we love. Focus only on seeing the good in your spouse, parent, child, neighbor or friend, and you will be stunned at how they seem to change to conform to our new way of thinking. They haven’t changed. Only our world has.
