The first thing to remember is the dual nature of your mind.  The subconscious mind is constantly amenable to the power of suggestion; furthermore the subconscious mind has complete control of the functions, conditions, and sensations of your body.  Trust the subconscious mind to heal you.  It made your body, and it knows all of its processes and functions.  It knows much more than your conscious mind about healing and restoring you to perfect balance. 

In using the subconscious mind you infer no opponent; you use no will power.  You use imagination, not will power.  You imagine the end and the freedom state.  You will find your intellect trying to get in the way, but persist in maintaining a simple, child-like, miracle-making faith.  Picture yourself without the ailment or problem.  Imagine the emotional accompaniments of the freedom-state you crave. 

The reasons of failure are: Lack of confidence and too much effort.  Suggest to the subconscious mind to the point of conviction; then relax.  Get yourself off of your hands.  Say to conditions and circumstances, “This, too, shall pass.”  Through relaxation you impress the subconscious mind enabling the kinetic energy behind the idea to take over, and bring it into concrete realization.

The trouble with most people is that they have no invisible means of support when business falls away, or the stock market drops, or they lose their investments; they seem helpless.  The reason for such insecurity is that they do not know how to tap the subconscious mind.  They are unacquainted with the inexhaustible storehouse within.

Auto-suggestion succeeds best when it is specific, and it does not produce a mental conflict or argument; hence the statements made by this man made matters worse, because they suggested his lack.  The subconscious accepts only your convictions and beliefs, not just words or statements.  The dominant idea or belief is always accepted by the subconscious mind.

The following is a way to overcome this conflict for those who have this difficulty.  Make this practical statement frequently, particularly prior to sleep: “By day and by night I am being prospered in all of my interests.”  This will not arouse any argument, because it does not contradict the subconscious mind’s impression of financial lack.

To prosper means to advance along all lines in wisdom, understanding, and material possessions.  Money represents wealth; it is a symbol of exchange; it represents freedom, opulence, luxury, and refinement.  I do not know of anyone who says that he has too much; in all probability he is looking for more.

The subconscious mind works under a law of abundance.  Nature is lavish, extravagant, and bountiful.  Increase your estimate of yourself.  If you bargain with life for a penny a day, the universe will respond accordingly.  Many people have a keen desire for more money, but they have a subconscious pattern of seventy-five dollars a week; therefore, that is what they demonstrate; whereas they could demonstrate much more.

Your subconscious mind is never short of ideas; there are within it an infinite number of ideas ready to flow into your conscious mind, and appear as cash in your pocket book in countless ways.  This process will continue to go on in your mind regardless of whether the market goes up or down, or whether the pound sterling or dollar drops in value.  Your wealth is never truly dependent on bonds, stocks, or money in a bank; these are really all symbols necessary and useful, of course.  The point I wish to emphasize is that if you convince your subconscious mind that wealth is yours, and that plenty of money is always circulating in your life, you will always have it regardless of the form it takes.

When it comes to authoring and teaching great Success Manuals, Orison Swett Marden is a true Master.  After all, the man is the founder of Success magazine - which continues to flourish to this very day.  Yet, based on my limited experience with his works and this site, he simply doesn't get the credit he deserves.

Today's addition to the Success Manual Download Library may be Mr. Marden's greatest work - "The Miracle of Right Thought."  It was a joy editing, compiling and finishing this great work for this site, as the teachings in this Success Manual were so profound, so true and yet so basic.  I urge you (as I often do) to download your free copy and read it.  Study it.  Live it.

This is not, by any means, complicated material.  In fact, it is rather simplistic and Marden has an established method of laying out his Success principles in succinct and easy-to-understand fashion.  The key, as is always the case, is taking the principles and living by them.  The Miracle of Right Thought not only makes compelling, spiritual arguments to achieving the Success that you desire, but Marden's style also makes it a little less difficult to implement those principles in your life.  And that is a great start.

Here are but a few of the many resonating quotes from The Miracle of Right Thought which is but a taste of the material that waits within the pages of this book:

The limitation is in ourselves, and not in the Creator.  He wants His children to have all of the good things of the universe, because He has fashioned them for His own.  If we do not take them, it is because we limit ourselves.

We tend to get what we expect, and if we expect nothing we get nothing.  The stream can not rise higher than its fountainhead; no one can become prosperous when he expects or half expects to remain poor.

Every achievement has its origin in the mind, every structure is first a mental structure.  The building is first completed in all its details in the architect’s mind.  The contractor merely puts the stones, the brick and other material around the idea.  We are all architects.  Everything we do in life is preceded by some sort of a plan.

The man who expects prosperity is constantly creating money in his mind, building his financial structure mentally.  There must be a mental picture of the prosperity first; the building around it is comparatively easy.  It does not take as great a man to place the material around the idea as to create the idea, the mental picture.  This is not idle dreaming, it is brain building, mental planning, mental construction. 

Prosperity begins in the mind and is impossible while the mental attitude is hostile to it.  It is fatal to work for one thing and to expect something else, because everything must be created mentally first and is bound to follow its mental pattern.  No one can become prosperous while he really expects or half expects to remain poor.  We tend to get what we expect, and to expect nothing is to get nothing.  When every step you take is on the road to failure, how can you hope to arrive at the success goal?

Optimism is a builder.  It is to the individual what the sun is to vegetation.  It is the sunshine of the mind, which constructs life, beauty, and growth in everything within its reach.  Our mental faculties grow and thrive in it just as the plants and trees grow and thrive in the physical sunshine.

Others are waiting for somebody to discover them.  The world is too busy to hunt for merit.

There is no inferiority or depravity about the man that God made.  The only inferiority in us is what we put into ourselves.  What God made is perfect.  The trouble is that most of us are but a burlesque of the man God patterned, intended.  We think ourselves into smallness, into inferiority by thinking downward.  We ought to think upward, if we would reach the heights where superiority dwells.

Faith is the bed rock upon which all other foundation stones in every great character rest.  Thus the man who has an invincible faith in his mission, an unconquerable faith in himself and in his God, has power in the world.

Most successful men I have known had the habit of expecting things to turn out right.  No matter how black or discouraging the outlook, they held tenaciously to their faith in the final outcome.  This habit of holding an expectant attitude in some mysterious way unknown to us attracts the thing we long for, just as though our own were always seeking us when we were seeking it.

The same is true in regard to prosperity.  Do not allow yourself to think that anything else can come to you but prosperity.  Assume the prosperity attitude, thought, manner.  Act like a prosperous, progressive man, dress like one, think like one.  Be sure that your mental picture, your mental attitude, is the pattern of that which you would like to be a reality.

The realization that in the truth of our being we are actually a part of this great principle, a necessary, inseparable part of it, and that we can no more be annihilated than can the laws of mathematics, that we must partake of all of the qualities which compose our Creator, that we must be perfect and immortal because we were created by Perfection, are a part of immortal Principle, solves the greatest mysteries of life and gives us a wonderful sense of security, safety, satisfaction, and contentment, which nothing else can give.

Man is beginning to learn that his power, his success, his happiness are in proportion to the completeness of his consciousness of this divine connection, and that he is mighty or weak as he keeps it inviolate and sacred, or breaks it.  All our troubles come from our sense of separateness from the Infinite Source.

One of the greatest delusions that ever crept into a mortal brain is that it is inevitable that a man at the age of forty or fifty should begin to lose his power and go down hill physically and mentally.  Why should man, the grandest creation of God, begin to decline just as he is really beginning to get ready to live?

Night worrying is not only painful and aging, but also dangerous.  It keeps the blood in a state of chronic poisoning which impairs all of the mental processes and the physical functions as well.

The simple life – plain living and high thinking – tends to increase longevity.  There is no doubt that because of the very nature of his work, the clergyman’s life is conducive to longevity.  His mind is employed on high themes; he contemplates sacred subjects.  He is dealing with high ideals, and, for the most part, leads an unselfish life, largely devoted to the service of others.

Whenever you think of yourself, always hold the image of yourself as you would like to be.  Do not dwell upon your imperfections or weaknesses, because that will mar your image, but hold tenaciously to the ideal of yourself; think of yourself in your perfection, as the personality the Creator intended you to be.  Many people dwell in their thoughts upon their imperfections, and so accentuate their weaknesses or peculiarities that they only see a distorted picture of themselves.  They gradually lose their self-respect and their dignity.  It is what we think of ourselves, the ideal of ourselves which we have in mind, that out- pictures itself in our manner, our appearance.

Right thinking and right living make a right life.

 I especially love that last quote: "Right thinking and right living make a right life."  That about sums it up.

Now, for the exciting conclusion to The Law of Success in Sixteen Lessons by Napoleon Hill, I am pleased to present you with the final installment - Lesson Sixteen: The Golden Rule.  What a great addition to The Napoleon Hill Success Library!

And a good lesson it is.  I can certainly use some of this timeless Wisdom - again, and again, and again.  Moreover, Lesson 16 brings together all of the great material from the prior fifteen lessons - The Golden Rule is the glue that binds the other lessons into a cohesive, working fabric.

We have spent some significant time at this site discussing the Golden Rule and have compiled some noteworthy posts on the subject.

Earlier this year, we did Success Key: The Law of Compensation, Part 1, on February 8, 2011, and received great feedback on that post.

And, back on March 10, 2010, who could forget Success Key: The Golden Rule - A Lost Success Key? 

The bottom line is that The Golden Rule is paramount to achieving Success.  Whether we call it the Law of Compensation, Law of Cause and Effect, karma or any number of other terms, how we think about and act towards others will come back to us in kind.  If not now, then later.  But, it will come back.

Here are a few great quotes from Lesson 16 by Professor Hill to get you on your way:

• There is an eternal law through the operation of which we reap that which we sow.  When you select the rule of conduct by which you guide yourself in your transactions with others, you will be fair and just, very likely, if you know that you are setting into motion, by that selection, a power that will run its course for weal or woe in the lives of others, returning, finally, to help or to hinder you, according to its nature.
• It may be an old-fashioned idea, but somehow I can’t get away from the belief that no man can attain success in its highest form without the aid of earnest prayer!
• The Golden Rule philosophy is based upon a law which no man can circumvent.  This law is the same law that is described in Lesson Eleven, on Accurate Thought, through the operation of which one’s thoughts are transformed into reality corresponding exactly to the nature of the thoughts.
• Those who understand and apply the Golden Rule philosophy are always scrupulously honest, not alone out of their desire to be just with others, but because: of their desire to be just with themselves.  They understand the eternal law upon which the Golden Rule is based, and they know that through the operation of this law every thought they release and every act in which they indulge has its counterpart in some fact or circumstance with which they will later be confronted.
• If all your acts toward others, and even your thoughts of others, are registered in your subconscious mind, through the principle of Autosuggestion, thereby building your own character in exact duplicate of your thoughts and acts, can you not see how important it is to guard those acts and thoughts?  We are now in the very heart of the real reason for doing unto others as we would have them do unto us, for it is obvious that whatever we do unto others we do unto ourselves.
• You have noticed frequent reference to Emerson throughout this course.  Every student of the course should own a copy of Emerson’s Essays, and the essay on Compensation should be read and studied at least every three months.  Observe, as you read this essay, that it deals with the same law as that upon which the Golden Rule is based.
• Remember that your reputation is made by others, but your character is made by you!
• Throughout this entire course one particular principle has been emphasized for the purpose of illustrating the truth that every personality is the sum total of the individual’s thoughts and acts – that we come to resemble the nature of our dominating thoughts.
• No one knows the limitations of the power of thought, or whether or not it has any limitations.  Whatever man believes he can do he eventually does.

And, in Lesson 16, Professor Hill also leaves us with his "Code of Ethics," which, in all its simplicity, is worth noting:

My Code of Ethics

1. I believe in the Golden Rule as the basis of all human conduct; therefore, I will never do to another person that which I would not be willing for that person to do to me if our positions were reversed.
2. I will be honest, even to the slightest detail, in all my transactions with others, not alone because of my desire to be fair with them, but because of my desire to impress the idea of honesty on my own subconscious mind, thereby weaving this essential quality into my own character.
3. I will forgive those who are unjust toward me, with no thought as to whether they deserve it or not, because I understand the law through which forgiveness of others strengthens my own character and wipes out the effects of my own transgressions, in my subconscious mind.
4. I will be just, generous and fair with others always, even though I know that these acts will go unnoticed and unrecorded, in the ordinary terms of reward, because I understand and intend to apply the law through the aid of which one’s own character is but the sum total of one’s own acts and deeds.
5. Whatever time I may have to devote to the discovery and exposure of the weaknesses and faults of others I will devote, more profitably, to the discovery and correction of my own.
6. I will slander no person, no matter how much I may believe another person may deserve it, because I wish to plant no destructive suggestions in my own subconscious mind.
7. I recognize the power of Thought as being an inlet leading into my brain from the universal ocean of life; therefore, I will set no destructive thoughts afloat upon that ocean lest they pollute the minds of others.
8. I will conquer the common human tendency toward hatred, and envy, and selfishness, and jealousy, and malice, and pessimism, and doubt, and fear; for I believe these to be the seed from which the world harvests most of its troubles.
9. When my mind is not occupied with thoughts that tend toward the attainment of my definite chief aim in life, I will voluntarily keep it filled with thoughts of courage, and self-confidence, and goodwill toward others, and faith, and kindness, and loyalty, and love for truth, and justice, for I believe these to be the seed from which the world reaps its harvest of progressive growth.
10. I understand that a mere passive belief in the soundness of the Golden Rule philosophy is of no value whatsoever, either to myself or to others; therefore, I will actively put into operation this universal rule for good in all my transactions with others.
11. I understand the law through the operation of which my own character is developed from my own acts and thoughts; therefore, I will guard with care all that goes into its development.
12. Realizing that enduring happiness comes only through helping others find it; that no act of kindness is without its reward, even though it may never be directly repaid, I will do my best to assist others when and where the opportunity appears.

Ring, ring!!

That's the school bell.  Summer vacation time is over and it's time to hit the books.  School is back in session and Professor Hill is ready and waiting . . .  with only two Lessons left from his Law of Success in Sixteen Lessons series.

Today's session is Lesson 15 and it is on Intolerance.  What the world could learn from that.

Intolerance is a form of ignorance which must be mastered before any form of enduring success may be attained.  It is the chief cause of all wars.  It makes enemies in business and in the professions.  It disintegrates the organized forces of society in a thousand forms, and stands, like a mighty giant, as a barrier to the abolition of war.  It dethrones reason and substitutes mob psychology in its place.

For regular visitors of this site, it is quite apparent that I have been “missing in action” for some time.  Indeed, my last post on this site is dated March 9, 2011 and it was the accompanying commentary to the free Success Ebook download for “The Law of Success – Lesson Fourteen: Failure” by Napoleon Hill.

As I noted in the last issue of the SuccessBeacon! Newsletter, which went out last week, in the words of the famous American author Mark Twain, it seems that the reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated.  Well, maybe just “exaggerated.” 

Truth?  What is Truth?  Those were the questions posited by Pontius Pilate to the Great Master when he claimed after his arrest that he was a “witness to the truth.”  John 18:37.

In Latin, Quid est veritas? 

There is Truth – the real, honest-to-goodness objective Truth. Objective Truth is neither good nor bad – it just IS. On the other hand, there is “truth,” the subjective truth, the kind that is built upon beliefs, opinions, and distorted perceptions.

On the other hand, there is “truth,” the subjective truth, the kind that is built upon beliefs, opinions, and distorted perceptions.  I was soon to learn a lesson of how awful personal “truths” can become.

I never gave much thought to how we all color our worlds by building our own set of “truths” to support our beliefs, opinions, biases, distorted perceptions, and worst of all, our emotions.  “Truth crafted around emotion?” you ask.  You bet.  “But – isn’t emotion based on Truth?”  Well . . . .  sometimes yes; many times – no.

Most of the time, what we believe is (objective) Truth is really (subjective) truth.  Having the guts to question ourselves and our beliefs is a task that most of us are unwilling to undertake, and so, we continue to live as though our concocted "truths" are, indeed, the Truth.  It is difficult to admit that we may be wrong, especially to ourselves.  It takes a wise person to question him or herself and take to task how our beliefs, opinions, perceptions, biases – and emotions – actually change objective Truth to distorted, inaccurate "truth," so that we may continue to live in our self-constructed world in which we are the center – and always right.

Imagine one beautiful, sunny morning that you are strolling down the street, enjoying the soft, gentle late spring breeze and the aroma of blossoming flowers, when, without warning, three police cars suddenly surround you in screeching halts.  Police officers jump out of their patrol cars, violently grab you, throw you to the ground, and place you under arrest.

You are a citizen of outstanding reputation, a professional, a family man with several children.  You are actively involved in the community and your church.  Having done nothing wrong and having lead a crime-free life all fifty years of your life, you are more than shocked.  In an effort to “survive” the ordeal, your mind switches to auto-function.  The world becomes dreamlike.  “This isn’t really happening to me,” you think to yourself, as the police throw you into the back of one of their patrol cars.

It is all surreal.  Too surreal.  The sweet aroma of hyacinths and daffodils is suddenly and starkly replaced by the pungent stench of sweat, stale coconut-scented car air-fresheners and the grimy hard-plastic backseat of a police car.  It is humid, 80 degrees outside and hot air is blasting full force from the car’s heater.  You struggle to breathe.  Panic sets in.  This isn’t real.

The sweet aroma of hyacinths and daffodils is suddenly and starkly replaced by the pungent stench of sweat, stale coconut-scented car air-fresheners and the grimy hard-plastic backseat of a police car.  It is humid, 80 degrees outside and hot air is blasting full force from the car’s heater.  You struggle to breathe.  Panic sets in.  This isn’t real.

Your mind continues to do things to protect yourself from the reality of the trauma that you are experiencing.  It is as though you are watching a movie.

Yet, you cling to the notion that the Truth will set you free.  The Truth will come out and everything will be all right.  This is just a mistake.

Soon, you find out that someone allegedly identified you – yes, you – as the perpetrator of a crime.  Not just a crime, but a violent crime.  And, certainly, a crime that you did not commit.

And not just any “someone” – a “someone” that you know, love and trust.  How can this be?

Yet, you continue to cling to the notion that the Truth will set you free.  The Truth will come out and everything will be all right.  This is just an awful, horrible, HUGE mistake.

As an attorney who has been practicing law for almost 22 years, I have learned the indisputable – and unfortunate – reality that many innocent people are falsely accused every day in the United States for crimes they never committed.  And, much worse, that the wrongly or falsely accused are sometimes even convicted for crimes that they did not commit.

As an attorney who has been practicing law for almost 22 years, I have learned the indisputable – and unfortunate – reality that many innocent people are falsely accused every day in the United States for crimes they never committed.  And, much worse, that the wrongly or falsely accused are sometimes even convicted for crimes that they did not commit.

In my younger years, I believed that such things happened, but that they happened only rarely.  False accusations and convictions were, through my rose-colored glasses, primarily a concoction of liberal media and their college professor cohorts.  However, as the power of DNA evidence has demonstrated over the past twenty years, that is not the case.  Such things happen far, far more often than we are willing to admit (or at least I was unwilling to admit).

In this country, we like to think that our justice system is the best and fairest in the world – and I do believe that it is.  That, however, does not even come close to making it perfect.  And, perfect it is not.  It is very imperfect because it is premised upon imperfect, subject truth – not the real Truth, but rather, the kind that we make up in our heads.

Indeed, so many individuals have been wrongly and falsely accused – and convicted – that some states in this country have placed moratoriums on implementing death sentences.  Executions have been stayed or even converted to life sentences.  One wrong death sentence execution of an innocent person is one too many.  [Whether the death sentence is morally right is another question which is beyond the scope of this post].

The point is this: the scenario that I laid out at the beginning of this post is reality – a reality based on subjective “truth” that happens all of the time and nobody is immune from it.  My little hypothetical, after all, is not a hypothetical.  It can happen to anybody.

It can happen to you. 

It happened to my dear friend, Bob.  Bob Martin has been to hell and back.

Trust me, I know.

Well, it's nice to see you all again as we join Professor Hill for Lesson Fourteen of The Law of Success in Sixteen Lessons.  I am in the midst of a major - and very positive - transition and have stepped aside for the past ten days while I focus my energies on new matters.  So, it is nice to be back to hear Professor Napoleon Hill teach us a little bit about the oft-misunderstood concept of "Failure."

We have written much in these pages on this site about the differences between true "Failure" and "Temporary Defeat."  There is a tremondous difference; one will stop you dead in your tracks - because you so allow it by quitting - while the other is only an obstacle in the road to achieving your Goal and ultimate Success.  And, as Professor Hill teaches in Lesson Fourteen, Temporary Defeat are enormous teaching lessons.  We must never forget that EVERY Success has been preceeded by countless Temporary Defeats along the path.  It is all part of the journey.

In Lesson Fourteen, Napoleon Hill recounts for us seven of his most crushing, personal Temporary Defeats - all of which seemed, at the moment they happened, to be true Failures.  Only some time afterward did he realize that they were all required for his ultimate Success and all were, in some sense, "blessings in disguise."

Here are a few quotes by Professor Hill from Lesson Fourteen as to those Temporary Defeats:

Not only was I “succeeding,” from my viewpoint of success, but I knew I was engaged in the one and only business suited to my temperament.  Nothing could have induced me to change into another line of endeavor.  That is – nothing except that which happened, which forced me to change.

The rainbow’s end had disappeared, and with it the proverbial pot of gold which is supposed to be found at its end.  It was many years afterwards that I learned the truth that this temporary defeat was probably the greatest single blessing that ever came my way, because it forced me out of a business that in no way helped me to develop knowledge of self or of others, and directed my efforts into a channel which brought me a rich experience of which I was in need.

However ignorant I might have been in other matters at the time, I have felt thankful ever since for having had sense enough to realize that strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle, that disuse brings atrophy and decay.

While I do not mean to convey the impression that I believe all of our acts to be controlled by causes beyond our power to direct, yet I strongly urge you to study and correctly interpret those causes which mark the most vital turning-points of your life; the points at which your efforts are diverted – from the old into new channels – in spite of all that you can do.  At least refrain from accepting any defeat as failure until you shall have had time to analyze the final result.

If you are currently struggling - or even if you are not - with Temporary Defeats, then Lesson Fourteen is just what the doctor ordered.  Remember, our Creator always seeks to draw the Good out of every situation, every circumstance.  If you have run smack into a Temporary Defeat, there are countless lessons to be learned - so make good use of what has been presented.  It is part of the road map and is a way point to the Destination.

And, DON'T QUIT!

Welcome back, class!  I trust that you had an enjoyable "spring break" and made good use of your time away from Professor Hill and his course, The Law of Success in Sixteen Lessons.

Today's addition to The Success Manual Free Download Library and The Napoleon Hill Success Library is the next session in the "Law of Success" series - Lesson Thirteen: Cooperation.

As Napoleon Hill explains it, we need to Cooperate on two levels: 1) with others, and 2) with ourselves.  The first part is somewhat obvious, but frankly, I never thought of Cooperation as something that we must do within, linking our conscious with our subconscious and opening up to the Infinite Intelligence of our Creator.  But, after reading Lesson Thirteen, I believe it is quite true.

As Professor Hill explains it:

Cooperation is the beginning of all organized effort and it exists in two forms.  First, the Cooperation between people who group themselves together or form alliances for the purpose of attaining a given end, under the principles known as the Law of the Master Mind.  Second, the Cooperation between the conscious and the subconscious minds, which forms a reasonable hypothesis of man’s ability to contact, communicate with and draw upon infinite intelligence.

And, again, concerning the Cooperation process within:

When you impress any idea on your subconscious mind, through the principle of Auto-suggestion, you do so with the aid of this dual nervous system: and when your subconscious mind works out a definite plan of any desire with which you impress it, the plan is delivered back to your conscious mind through this same dual nervous system.  This Cooperative system of nerves literally constitutes a direct line of communication between your ordinary conscious mind and infinite intelligence.

Another great quote by Hill in Lesson Thirteen concerns his response to those individuals who complain that "life" or "the world" (or anybody or anything, for that matter) fails to provide them a "chance."  His reply is noteworthy:

Think of it – the world would not “give them a chance.”

Of course the world wouldn’t give them a chance.

It never gives anyone a chance.  A man who wants a chance may create it through action, but if he waits for someone to hand it to him on a silver platter he will meet with disappointment.

Wow - potent stuff, but very, very true.  WE create our chances and we do it by TAKING ACTION.  Otherwise, stay at home and watch reality television.

Every once in a while (actually, it happens more often then we tend to admit), I am pleasantly surprised by one of the Success Manuals that we make available in The Free Success Manual Download Library.  Today's addition, "Working with God" by Gardner Hunting, is a perfect example.

I have had Working with God for quite some time - years in fact - but had never read it.  Because I was not familiar with the work, I intentionally neglected it, and focused on some of the more established and popular works for this site.  Eventually (only a week ago), I opened it to examine whether it may be suitable for The Success Manual.

It is more than suitable.  It is perfect!

Working with God is an excellent Success Manual and it resonated well with me.  It makes such perfect sense, as it draws on the Spiritual Laws which govern all actions in the Universe.  These are the very laws that apply in our lives, and if we are to attain Success, Prosperity and Wealth - honestly, sincerely and lastingly (at least while we visit this planet), then we are obliged to work with the Laws.

We always have a choice - we can work with God's laws or we can choose not to work with God's law.  The decisions are ours, and if we seek to circumvent the prevailing established laws of our Creator, we have no reason to complain if we fail to achieve or attain that which we Desire.

Working with God is written in similar vein as "Working with the Law" by Raymond Holliwell, although perhaps less esoteric.  That is to be expected, I suppose, since Working with God was written in 1934 while Working with the Law was written decades later.  Both are phenomenal works.

Here is just a small sampling of some of the pointed teachings of Working with God:

Of course the first question that comes up in your mind (it was the first in my mind) is “How long must I suffer for what I’ve already done?”  That’s an interesting point.  Suppose we think a minute about law: If I am working a problem in arithmetic, and I have been getting the wrong answer over and over and over again; and if I suddenly find that I’ve been trying to work the problem by the wrong method – contrary to principle – in opposition to law; and if I stop going contrary to law and work with law, how long does it take me to get the right answer?

If, when we began making this thing we had understood all the laws of its making, we could have made it instantaneously without going through the process of learning how.

But that would have been a miracle!  Exactly!  The difference between what we call a natural process and what we call a miracle is largely a matter of the time required to reach the desired end.  But doing a “miracle” is merely a matter of understanding the laws by which it is done.  The first Ford car required months of grueling labor to build; today the Ford plants can make about five and one half cars a minute – or one about every ten seconds.  Is that a miracle?  Wouldn’t it have been a miracle to produce a Ford every ten seconds, say thirty years ago?  What makes it possible today?  Knowledge of the laws.

It will work for you – this law.  It has worked for me.  It is working for you and for me whether we know it or not – whether we believe it or not.  What you give out comes back to you – multiplied.  If you don’t get what you want, it’s nobody’s fault but your own.  If I don’t get what I want, it’s nobody’s fault but mine.  The law works.  If it works for me slowly at first, that is because I must learn by giving what I have, before I can get more knowledge of the law and thus have more to give.

God is the law.

Men do get what they want – what they really want.  You can get what you really want, as we have said – and you will get it, whether you know it or not!

Natural laws as we know them fit together in a perfect and continuous order.  A thousand analogies indicate the same harmony and continuity among spiritual laws.  Harmony is the sine qua non of the universe; without it we could not exist.  The law of love is the law of harmony.  Yet people will tell you that living by the law of love is not practical.  It is not – if you go only part way.  The way to obey is to obey – completely.

Pure Christianity, that is, the Christianity that Jesus of Nazareth Himself taught, seems to me highly practical.

I am a business man.  My problems are real to me.  My primary reason for turning to practical Christianity is to find solutions for my problems; my problems.

They are instant to me, these problems, immediate, pressing.  I have employees to pay, a family to support, food, clothing, shelter to provide.  I am thinking of these problems almost constantly.  Whatever else I may be doing, wherever I may be, I think of them more or less continually.  I must, since it is my job to provide the things that are necessary to my business and to my family.  Will practical Christianity help me in this?  Is practical Christianity “practical?”

Because Truth is one-indivisible whole, omnipresent, omnipotent.  Truth is God.

And haven’t you had the experience of thinking of what seemed momentarily a good idea; then discarding it because it was your own and so couldn’t be worth much – and soon after finding that somebody else had conceived the selfsame idea, used it, put it over successfully, and reaped the profits and the credit that might have been yours?  And how cheap you felt, when all you could say to yourself was “I thought of that first.  Why didn’t I do it?”

That “haste makes waste” is an old aphorism.  A common observation upon the person who says or does unkind, mean, or cruel things on the spur of the moment – without “malice aforethought” is that he is “hasty.”  Hasty words, hasty acts, make trouble.  Why?  Because they are usually said or done without reference to the Spirit within – in disregard of the still small voice.
